Last episode, I talked about why I’m voting for Donald Trump; because of the importance of the choice of Supreme Court justices. Here’s a closer look at one of the details as to why, and it goes more into why we’ll need to vote the platform rather than the person. When it comes to funding abortion, the Democrats simply aren’t pro-choice.

I got the first email for the Consider This Vote segment. I just announced this last episode so I’m impressed that I got a response so quickly; the day after the episode went out.
So here’s what Peaches in Wisconsin wrote in to say:
Just listened to your Episode 150 and I too have been struggling as to how to most effectively vote against Hillary. Just now, I have arrived at the beginning of a rationale.
I believe that both candidates have the capability and willingness to do grave harm to this country.
If Trump is elected, the media will dog his every move and statement so relentlessly that he may be unable to carry out his plans. However, if Hillary is elected, her actions will get nothing but kudos and cover-ups from the media.
So that will be enough to me to hold my nose and vote for Trump.

Indeed, it sounds like a case of voting against Hillary rather than voting for Donald; depressing to say the least but it’s what we have to work with. In this election, it seems like we’ll need to vote for the platform rather than the person, and the media coverage.
Well, keep your head up and fight the good fight, whatever that might look like!

Democrats consider themselves “pro-choice”. By this they mean that a woman should not be able to choose to drink raw milk or a soda that is too large, or should not be able to choose a wage that the government disapproves of, but that she should be allowed to kill her unborn baby. The platform of the Democratic Party has always included pro-abortion language. And before I continue, I want to explain why I used the term “pro-abortion” rather than “pro-choice”.
The two terms typically used are “pro-life” and “pro-choice”. Let’s look at the anti- versions of those. Are pro-choicers “anti-life”? No, of course not. If they were, they’d kill themselves, or would have no qualms in killing anyone at all. So strictly speaking, they are not anti-life. Similarly, are pro-lifers “anti-choice”? Well, in spite of being often called that, they typically want to give people more choices, like the few examples I gave earlier. In addition, they’d like the baby to have all the choices they can. So strictly speaking, they are not anti-choice.
It boils down to what those choices include. Those against abortion don’t want that option available except under the most extreme circumstances. This is typically in the case of a potential loss of life to the mother, and some include some circumstances surrounding the conception of the child; rape or incest. But in general, they are “anti-abortion”. Conversely, those on the other side want abortion to remain as an option for the mother, in virtually any circumstance. A few even go as far as wanting this option up until the seconds before birth, and some (but not many) extend this to some unspecified time after birth. (A link to the most infamous of these ideas is in the show notes.) But in general, they are “pro-abortion”; keeping that choice as a (if you will) viable option.
With that out of the way, let’s look at this year’s Democratic platform. It includes this: “We will continue to oppose—and seek to overturn—federal and state laws and policies that impede a woman’s access to abortion, including by repealing the Hyde Amendment.” What’s the Hyde Amendment? Well, since 1976 – 40 years ago – the Hyde Amendment has banned the use of federal funds (that is, your tax dollars) to pay for abortion, except in the case of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is in danger. The amendment has long received bipartisan support, but as of this year – the first time since its passage – a major political party has made its repeal part of the platform.
The change here shows just how far into the pro-abortion camp the Democratic Party platform has gone. Now, it’s not just enough to keep abortion safe, legal and rare (well, safe and legal; a million a year isn’t exactly rare), but now they insist that you must be compelled to pay for it. Now, I understand that government does things that some folks would rather not pay for. Pacifists, for instance, don’t want to pay for war, but we understand that paying for things the government does that we don’t like is sometimes the price we pay for the government doing things we do like. And the idea is, supposedly, that the government at least tries to do things that the majority want to have it do.
Except that recent polls show that more than 80 percent of Americans believe there should be restrictions on abortion, and 62 percent of Americans oppose taxpayer funding of abortion. So the question is, who does the Democratic Party represent with their (what can be legitimately described as) extreme position on what is a literal life-and-death issue?
And if I may, I’d like a quick sidebar with my fellow Christians who plan on voting for Clinton. If you can overlook her long track record of corruption, can you really overlook this, especially the trend towards more and more abortion? Is this the way to treat the least of the least of these?
Anyway, if the access to abortions is so incredibly urgent, perhaps Planned Parenthood could take some of those taxpayer-subsidized multimillion dollar profits and make their services more affordable. If they really are pro-choice and not just pro-abortion, perhaps they could do their part to give all of the American people a bit more choice in how their money is spent.
